The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Delta State Council has denounced any form of perception of war with the state government against wide speculation that the union was in cold war with the governor over the recent communique issued at the end of its congress few days ago.
In a communique issued at the end of the state executive council meeting held on Thursday 1st July, 2021 at the union temporary press centre in Asaba, signed by the state chairman Comrade Michael Ikeogwu and Secretary Comrade Patrick Ochei urged the public to disregard such rumour.

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE STATE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL (SEC) MEETING OF NUJ, DELTA STATE COUNCIL, HELD ON THURSDAY, JULY 1, 2021, AT THE TEMPORARY PRESS CENTRE, IN ASABA.
The Union at its Emergency SEC meeting held at the Temporary Press Centre, deliberated on immediate issues affecting the Council and its relationship with Government and general public and resolved as follows:
1. SEC-in-Session passed a vote of implicit confidence on the State Chairman, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu and the State Working Committee for a focused leadership and tangible achievements so far.
2. SEC in session denounced any form of perception of war with government, stating that it is not at war with government or anybody. He therefore, urged the public to disregard such rumour.
3. SEC-in-Session also posited that while the union would continue to play its constitutional role of holding government accountable, it would equally continue to support the administration of Governor Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa towards an all inclusive development and Stronger Delta.
4. SEC-in-Session nonetheless, affirmed that the union would remain resolute in playing its statutory role of mounting surveillance on the society, while at the same time, resist any attempt by anybody or group to divide the Union.
