The Member Representing Uvwie Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon Solomon Ighrakpata has expressed sadness over the death of seven pupils of the Army Day Primary School, Effurun in Uvwie local government area by a truck along NPA Expressway.
Hon Ighrakpata who had accompanied a team of state government officials led by the Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori on a condolence visit to the school, said the news of the incident which occurred last Thursday came to him as a rude shock.
The Lawmaker who is the Deputy Chief Whip of the House, stated that it was reported that the truck which was loaded with petroleum product lost control and fell on the pupils while making a U-turn.
Hon Ighrakpata explained that it was also gathered that the pupils had closed from school and were waiting by the roadside adjacent to their school when the incident occurred, leaving seven of the children dead on the spot while some were injured and hospitalized.
The Deputy Chief Whip regrets the painful incident and condoled with families of the victims as well as pupils, teachers and management of the schools over the loss of the precious lives.
Hon Ighrakpata prayed God to grant the parents of the victims and their entire families the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable lost.
He appealed to tanker drivers operating in Uvwie and any other part of the state to be more careful in handling their trucks.
