Step is being taken by the Delta state government to address the deplorable state of the Ebu-Ezi-Ukala Okwute road linking communities in Oshimili North and Aniocha local government areas.
The Member Representing Oshimili North and Chief Whip of the State House of Assembly, Hon Pat Ajudua said budgetary provision has been made in this year’s budget to effect complete reconstruction of the road.
Addressing a three man delegation from Ebu, Ezi and Ukala communities in her office at State Assembly Complex in Asaba, the Chief Whip, Hon Pat Ajudua said Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is concern over the bad condition of that road due to its socio-economic importance.
Hon Ajudua disclosed that she is working in collaboration with some stakeholders including the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Chief Patrick Ukah to ensure the award of the project, and expressed optimism that work will commence on the road soon.
She said the entire state need that road to be rehabilitated as it connects Delta and Edo State, stressing that it is a shorter route for those traveling to Abuja by road.
The Chief Whip commended the delegation made up of Sir Richard Asenime and Mr Anthony Onwueme, both President Generals of Ebu and Ukala kingdoms respectively and Chief Christopher Afeli, an elder in Ezi community, for their service to humanity and commitments to the wellbeing of the people.
Sir Richard Asenime, the President General of Ebu community who spoke on behalf of others, said the deplorable condition of the Ebu-Ezi-Ukala Okwute road, is affecting the socioeconomic life of the people and appealed for urgent intervention.
He stated that the road is now a death trap as it is now spots of operations for herdsmen, kidnappers and other criminal elements, saying that people can not progress under the prevailing circumstances.
Sir Onwueme thank Hon Ajudua for the audience and appealed to her to convey their appreciation to the state Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa for the budgetary provision on the reconstruction of the said road.
