Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, the sociocultural organisation of the Urhobo ethnic nationality in Delta Central, comprising twenty four kingdoms, is certainly a reliable body and credible voice in the ongoing lobby for the overall support by Delta North and Delta South Senatorial Districts, for power shift to Delta Central in 2023.
The consultation group was constituted by the President General of UPU, Olorogun Moses Taiga, and appointed the first Vice President General, Capt Anthony Onoharigho, to lead the team round the senatorial districts, to solicit needed support for power shift to Delta Central.
The objective of producing an Urhobo son or daughter as successor of the incumbent Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, come 2023, is the sole objective and aspiration of the sociocultural organisation, a governor that will serve the interests of Deltans, and the overall development of the state, devoid of ethnic or tribal colourations.
In the light of the above, political leaders and stakeholders considered UPU consultation team as deep rooted and very reliable as can be seen from her structure, the entire 24 kingdoms in Delta Central.
It will be recalled that UPU worldwide recently appointed a prominent business mogul and illustrious son of Urhobo nation, Chief John Oguma, as Adviser of the consultation team. While accepting the position, he charged the committee to efficiently and effectively achieve set out goal of persuading leaders and stakeholders in Delta North and Delta South to support governorship slot for Delta Central.
In continuation of the lobby tour of the three senatorial districts, the team made up of President Generals of the 24 kingdoms in Urhobo nation and Exco of UPU worldwide, on Saturday July 17, 2021 had a warmly and successful meeting with the immediate past governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, at his palatial home in Warri, Delta State.
Uduaghan, advised the UPU consultation team to go about their assigned responsibility peacefully. He recognised the brotherly love and support Delta South and Delta Central continue to share in the political arena, among other collaborations.
Earlier, the leader of UPU delegation and first Vice President General of UPU worldwide, Capt Anthony Onoharigho, commended Uduaghan for his inestimable contributions to the development of Delta State, during his tenure as governor.
He appealed to the Delta South leader to add his powerful voice to the appeal for power shift to Delta Central, adding that his leadership roles in the state, and more particularly in Delta South, cannot be overemphasized.
The UPU senior scribe disclosed that the sociocultural organisation under the able leadership of Olorogun Moses Taiga, is well organised, focused and goals oriented, which is why the group deemed it necessary to play her inevitable roles in the present dispensation by mobilizing support for power shift to Delta Central, an entirely Urhobo district in the state.
“As the umbrella body of Urhobo ethnic nationality worldwide, and a major stakeholder in the affairs of Delta State, we are here to appeal to you, our amiable immediate past governor, to add your voice to the call for power shift to our senatorial district, come 2023.
“We are praying fervently for the best to emerge as governor in 2023, a leader who will build on the legacies of past governors, in the state.
“The several decades of mutual relationship between the three senatorial districts shall be enhanced and sustained should power shifts to Delta Central, come 2023,” Onoharigho assured.
