Unpaid Bills: Delta Lawmaker Okoh Rescues Couple From Hospital Detention

The Member Representing Ika South Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon Festus Chukwuyem Okoh, at the Federal Medical Center, FMC Asaba, rescued a couple and their twin babies who were being held back at the maternity ward over their inability to pay the bills charged for medical services provided them at the hospital.

Hon Okoh intervention relieved the family of Mr and Mrs Favour Otote for further continued stay in the medical center by settling the two hundred and eighty five thousand, eight hundred Naira unpaid bill.

Mr and Mrs Favour Otote had for the past three months been held in the Maternity Ward of FMC, Asaba after a successful delivery of twin babies in the health facility.

The hospital record show a bill of four hundred and eighty one thousand, eight hundred Naira, but Mr Favour Otote, the father of the twin babies was able to raised one hundred and ninety six thousand naira, with a balance of two hundred and eighty five thousand, eight hundred naira.

The hospital management however could not allow them leave until the balance amount was paid, resulting to the young mother and her twin babies held in the hospital for the past three months.

It was gathered that the unpalatable situation forced Mr Otote to seek financial assistance from Hon Festus Okoh, through one Jerome Ozakpolor, a Councilor in the Legislative Arm of Ika South Local Government Council.

Touched by the development, the Ika South Representative personally went to the hospital and cleared the balance amount of two hundred and eighty five thousand, eight hundred naira to set the family free from the custody of the Federal Medical Center.

Mr Otote, the wife and their twin have since been granted freedom after the payment with lot of gratitude to Hon Okoh for his intervention.

The couple who hailed from Ozanogogo in Ika South described the Lawmaker as a kind hearted man and prayed God to grant him more grace in his life endeavors.

Hon Okoh expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to assist those in need, even as he congratulated the couple for the gift of twin babies.
