Coalition for Media Politics, CMP, of the Peoples Democratic Party, has congratulated the new Majority Leader of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon Ferguson Onwo, on his well deserved appointment.
CMP, in a goodwill message signed by Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe Esq (Delta Central), Mr. Williams Eghebi (Delta North) and Ambassador Blankson Harold (Delta South); on Wednesday in Asaba, said Ferguson has all it takes to step into the big shoes of the former leader, Hon Tim Owhefere, Esq who died recently.
The group noted with nostalgia how Owhefere guided the House with enviable charisma, professional dignity, reasonable courage and competence, such that the state legislature under the Speaker, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, made significant progress as an independent arm of government.
“We urge the new Leader to emulate the noble character and exemplary kind disposition of his predecessor, Hon Owhefere, who in our view, was a great patriot, humble team player and detribalized Deltan.”
CMP commended the state party leadership and the Chairman, Chief Kingsley Esiso, for ensuring that Ferguson emerged while thanking Mr Speaker and all other members of the state legislature for the smooth transition of leadership to Onwo.
“CMP congratulates the new House Leader, Hon Ferguson Onwo. He is a man of many parts, a political scientist and a man with great foresight.
“Former Leader, Tim Owhefere, left an enviable standard and etched his name in the golden archives of the hallowed chamber.
“And we have no doubts in our mind that the new leader, Ferguson, will work so hard to surpass the enviable track records of his predecessor, while serving Deltans, as his new office demands.
“CMP as a stakeholder in the politics of our state and governance, is very active in multifaceted ways, and therefore not unaware of the unique politics surrounding the emergence of the new House Leader.
“We therefore commend the party leadership for a job well done.
“CMP assures Mr Speaker and the House leadership of our unalloyed support and loyalty, in articulating fundamental issues of good governance in our state, under the Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa.
“We wish Leader Ferguson the very best of luck, good health, wisdom and the required visionary leadership to lead the House in performing constitutional roles and duties, while working harmoniously with the other two arms of government,” CMP said.
