The Member Representing Ika North East in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon Anthony Emeka Elekeokwuri has expressed concern over the magnitude of gully erosion menace in parts of the Ika Nation.
Speaking against the backdrop of the visit of the Chairman and Members of the Federal House of Representatives Committee on Ecological Funds to the one kilometer erosion site at UBE Road, Off Uromi Junction, Agbor, Elekeokwuri said properties worth millions of naira have been lost to the natural disaster.
The Lawmaker acknowledged the need to give serious priority attention to the problem of gully erosion in Agbor and its metropolis to save collapse of more structures, most of them he said are already in imminent danger of being swept away.
Hon Elekeokwuri who is the Chairman, Delta Assembly Committee on Public Accounts, expressed the hope that the visit by the Ecological Funds Committee for on-the-spot assessment of the situation would bring lasting solution to the ever disturbing gully erosion problem in the localities.
He commended the Member Representing Ika Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Victor Nwokolo, for facilitating the visit of Ecological Funds team to the erosion site in Agbor and encourage him not to relent in the efforts for permanent solution to the problem.
Hon Elekeokwuri called for the intervention of critical stakeholders including corporate bodies, and other development partners, towards addressing the worrisome erosion problem in parts of Ika Nation.
The Lawmaker advised residents to avoid the temptation of erecting structures on the water ways in order not to compound the already challenges faced as a result of the rampaging water.
