UGHELLI – FOLLOWING the recent killing in Ughelli the administrative headquarters of Ughelli north local government council, Delta State, the monarch of Ughelli kingdom, HRM Wilson Ojakovo Oharisi III JP has directed the Nigerian police, Army and sister security agencies to mount security check points in Ughelli main market area to avert reoccurrence of the crisis.
The monarch gave the directive while holding meeting with members of Nigerian police from ‘A’ Division Ughelli, Area command, Ughelli police command, leaders of traders and their members at his
palace.
He noted that the recent crisis that engulfed Otor – Iwhreko and Ekiugbo communities is not unconnected with the issues surrounded the
market that time May this year resulted into killing and wanton
destruction of properties and goods worth hundreds of millions of
naira.
While blaming the recent crisis on the lack of implementation of the
resolution reached during the reconciliation meeting held in the month
of May 2021 between the two communities, the police, the Army, Ughelli
north council boss, government representatives and leaders of the
market on those in position of authority to enforce the resolutions,
he said, they have failed Ughelli kingdom, Ughelli north council and
Delta State as a whole.
While appealing to both warring communities to seize fire, he said,
the council and market traders in Ughelli main market in collaboration
with the palace will faction out the modalities on how to pay the
security operatives to be engage to provide security.
Oharisi III assured of stiff measures and punishment waiting those
causing troubles in the kingdom and theirs sponsors saying none will
go unpunished if cut.
“Nigerian Police, Army and Vigilantes should mount check points around
Ughelli main market to avoid the repeat of the recent mayhem that
rocked Otor – Iwhreko and Ekiugbo communities over Ughelli main
market.
“The Ughelli north council and Traders in the market in conjecture
with the palace will design a modality to pay the security operative
and other sisters’ security operatives to be hired to render security
service for the lives and properties within and outside the market
area”.
As at the time of filing this report, the Nigerian Army and police has
taken over the market area to avert a repeat of the crisis.
