Workshop: Delta State Govt. Wants Polytechnics To Resuscitate Its 70% Entrepreneural Skills

The Decree establishing Polytechnic Education in Nigeria was first promulgated in 1979 and amended in 1993 to run courses in various technical, technological and business Programmes at the National and Higher National Diploma levels to bridge the gap in skilled technical middle level power.

Academicians, politicians, traditional rulers, students among others converged on this hall for the town and gown strategic engagement with stakeholders at the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku to brainstorm on the theme “Moving Polytechnic Education Beyond Boundaries.

Managements of polytechnics in Nigeria have been urged to deliver on its vision of raising highly skilled technical and vocational manpower towards the technological advancement of the country

The Governor of Delta State, Doctor Ifeanyi Okowa made the remark at a one day stakeholders meeting in Ogwashi-Uku
Delta State Governor Doctor Ifeanyi Okowa represented by the Commissioner for higher education Prof. Patrick Muoboghare urged Polytechnic managements across the country to be model of excellence in scientific and technological education for students and economic development.

The governor harped on the need for entrepreneurial skills to engender econmic vitality, create advanced technological and innovative environment for excellence in the acquisition of technology

The Polytechnic Rector and Chairman, Governing Council Prof. Emmanuel Achuenu and Chief Joe Arausi said the gathering was to brainstorm on ideas between the Polytechnic community, stakeholders and the host community on Issues bothering on needs, agitations, security, Infrastructure among others that are pertinent in ensuring that everyone is involved in maintaining a stable, peaceful and mutually rewarding environment.

The keynote speaker, who is also Chief Economic Adviser to Delta State Government Dr. Kingsley Emu who dwelt on the theme “Moving Polytechnic Education Beyond Boundaries” said taking Polytechnic Education from where it was intended to be and universalising the skills by including certification to be able to play in continental/global spheres.

Some participants said the impact of the workshop cannot be over emphasized.
