Coalition for Media Politics, CMP, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Sunday,10th October, elected State Executive Committee Members, based on Senatorial district zoning system.
A statement by the Coalition pioneer State Chairman, Chief Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe Esq, and State Secretary, Hon Fatai Onifade, said three positions each were zoned to Delta Central, Delta North and Delta South, consisting of nine members in the state Exco, to be reviewed in due course as enshrined in the Coalition’s constitution.
The Coalition used the occasion to critically examined the merits and demerits of power rotation in the state, and resolved after a brain storming section, that the rotation of the governorship slot on Senatorial district basis cannot be faulted by any reasonable Deltan, as the merits of power shift far outweighs its demerits.
“CMP noted that the power rotation system within the party, PDP, is still the best option, because every Senatorial district in Delta State, is hopeful and sure of the opportunity to get the party’s gubernatorial flag for a popular and credible candidate, to enable it contribute towards the development of the state during the assigned maximum two tenures of eight years.
“The rotation system obviously promotes unity, equity and fairness and clears every iota of doubt and uncertainty, as power shifts every eight years from one district to another.
“It worked in the past twenty two years and still counting, and our state is better for it. The state remained peaceful with no records of ethnic groups clashing over which district is to govern the state. It is laudable and CMP believe it is most ideal for all stakeholders in the three Senatorial districts.
“Power shift affords the majority, minority, the weak and the strong equal opportunity to fly PDP governorship flag, and had over the years instilled great sense of belonging and equal stake in the affairs of the party in Delta State, and should be sustained.
“CMP strongly recommend that PDP Delta should take a step further by setting strict guidelines, rules and sanctions that would make the internal power rotation arrangement sacrosanct.
The power shift internal sanctions should be stringent and enforceable, to prevent or make it almost impossible for any individual or group of persons within the party to violate or truncate the arrangement,” the group said.
The media group said it also adopted the power rotation arrangement for CMP Exco, such that positions shall be rotated every two years on Senatorial basis, because it truly promotes unity, equity and fairness.
Those elected to serve in CMP State Exco for the next two years are;
State Chairman, Chief Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe Esq, JP (Delta Central), State Deputy Chairman (Delta North), Hon William Eghebi and State Deputy Chairman (Delta South), Hon Edwin Afejuku.
