Excursion: Ndokwa West Councillors Visit Delta Assembly

The Ndokwa West Legislative Arm on Tuesday paid a scheduled visit to the hallow chamber of the Delta State House of Assembly to witness its plenary session.

Welcoming the Councillors, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori charged them to emulate the vibrancy and maturity of the state lawmakers to make good laws that will improve the living conditions of Ndokwa West LGA.

The councillors witnessed the third reading and passage of the 2021 Supplementary Appropriation amendment bill into law.

The motion for the third reading of the bill and subsequent passage was moved by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Ferguson Onwo.

The Supplementary Appropriation amendment Bill, according to the Speaker was last Wednesday referred to the House Committee on Finance and Appreciation for further scrutiny and to report back to the house.

Presenting the Committee’s report, its Chairman, Hon. Erhiateke Ibori-Suenu said the amendments being sort were in order as priority areas were being addressed as governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration strives to finish strong.

She stated that in carrying out the assignment, the Committee critically analyzed the contents, quality and values of the realigned heads and votes to be sure that the reason given for the proposed amendments on both capital and recurrent estimates in the 2021 approved budget were workable.

She explained further that the reordering of some specific subheads was as a result of the needs by the state government to redirect unspent funds in some budget heads to very strategic and critical projects and programs.

The Lawmaker stated that the amendment amongst others were to accommodates the realignment of funds to facilitate payment for the ongoing projects at the new Technical Colleges and various on going infrastructural projects undertaken by the state government.

Hon. Ibori-Suenu noted that the Committee therefore recommend that the House graciously approve the amendments and ensure speedy passage of the supplementary Appropriation Bill.

Addressing the lawmakers on the importance of the bill, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oborevwori thanked members for the demonstration of commitment towards the early passage of the supplementary budget.

Thereafter, the councillors had an interactive session with the members representing Ndokwa West constituency, Hon. Charles Emetulu where the law maker took time to explain the rudiments of law making processes to councillors.

On his part, the Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Ndubuisi Okolafor, thanked the Speaker for granting the Councillors the opportunity to observed the plenary.

He equally commended the chairman of the Ndokwa West LGA, Chief Goddey Obi-Nzete for his support and encouragement towards the improvement of the Legislative Arm.
