In a bid to ensure peaceful coexistence among the various communities, the legislative arm of the Ndokwa West LGA, has passed a motion directing the executive arm of the council, to as a matter of urgency commence a peace-building effort across the LGA.
Moving the motion at the floor of the house during plenary on Thursday, Hon. Chris Amulum, the chairman house committee on security said, the motion became important in view of the lingering crises across various communities in the LGA.
He stressed the needs for the executive in collaboration with the legislative arm to carry out the peace-building advocacy especially now that the yuletide and general elections draw closer.
Speaking in support of the motion, Hon. Happiness Anigala, Barth Inneh Ozah and Ekene Enebeli, councillors representing wards 4, 7 and 9 respectively, noted that the motion was timely and urged the house to support the motion.
They argued that there is the need for constant enlightenment of the people towards living in harmony where justice, fairness and equity reigns.
Other motion that was brought under urgent public importance by Hon. Okochi Kenneth, the councillor representing ward 14, Ogume, was on the need for the executive chairman, to direct immediate action against the activities of herdsmen in the area who in flagrant disobedience of the anti-open grazing law of the state are terrorising farmers in the area.
The two motions were put into voice votes by the leader, Hon. Ndubuisi Okolafor, and were unanimously adopted.
The leader, in his remark, thanked the councillors for their maturity and the interest which they have shown in moving the local government forward.
