Delta Traders/Council Face Off:  Lawmaker Calls For Calm

The Member Representing Ughelli North 11 Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon Eric Oharisi has called for calm in the face off between the local government council and some traders in Ughelli.

Reacting to the protest on Monday by some women leading to blocking of the ever busy East West road in Ughelli, Hon Oharisi said dialogue remains the best option to any disagreement.

The Lawmaker warned against people taking laws into their hands, saying that miscreant and criminals can hijack the peaceful protest to commit havocs on innocent citizens.

Hon Oharisi stated that no matter the amount of provocations or alleged injustice, the issues can be investigated and peaceful resolution reach for the general good of all.

The Ughelli North 11 Representative said he had already reached out to some stakeholders and other relevant bodies geared towards seeking amicable solution to the problem.

The Lawmaker therefore enjoined the traders to be law abiding, assuring that allegations raised in their protest will receive the desired attention.

Hon Oharisi appealed to security agencies to help maintain peace in the locality.

He said opening of the Ughelli-Ogor Modern market will go a long way in addressing the challenges faced by traders in Ughelli and its metropolis.
