2022 Budget Defense: Delta Assembly Charges Sports Commission To Restore Warri Wolves…. Revamps Other Stadia For More Sports Activities

Worried by the current status of Warri Wolves Football Club, the Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Youth and Sports Development, has called on the State’s Sports Commission to rise up to the task of restoring the Club to its former state of glory

The charge was part of the task given to the Commission as it appeared before the committee for the ongoing defense of the 2022 budget proposals by MDAs at the Delta Assembly Complex in Asaba, the state Capital.

The budget defense session presided over by its Chairman, Hon. Alfred Martins, urged the Commission to work out modalities of taking the Club out from its current state of relegation.

To ensure that the Club bounces back to its former state, Members of the Committee enjoined the Tonobok Okowa led Commission to, as a matter of necessity, ensure adequate and prompt release of funds to the club.

The House Committee Members also advised the Commission to consider the possibility of using other Stadia outside that of Warri Stadium which was said to be currently under renovation.

The Lawmakers however commended the State Government for the feat it has so far recorded in the area of sports development and sporting activities in the Country.

They urged the Commission not to rest on its oars, but continue to strive harder until the State becomes a rallying point in sports development and sporting activities in the country.

Briefing the Committee on the activities of the commission so far and its projections for the 2022 fiscal year, the Executive Chairman, Delta State Sports Commission, Chief Tonobok Okowa said the commission is already working assiduously to winning more medals for the state.

Chief Okowa hinted that the commission has so far set up two sepeeate committees to look into the current state of both football clubs in the State, Warri Wolves and Delta Queens Football Clubs.

He said obvious challenges had slowed down some development in the activities of the Commission, disclosing that issues surrounding the abandoned Koko and Issele Uku stadium projects were being addressed.

The Chairman was accompanied by top officials of the Commission.
