The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori has commended the commitment of the Standing Committees of the House at ensuring early passage of the 2022 Appropriation Bill.
The Speaker made the commendation when he made brief appearances at some of the Committee rooms, venues of the ongoing budget defense by Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the State Government at the State Assembly Complex in Asaba.
The Speaker, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori said the budget defense session by the MDAs with the various standing committees was a key process to the passage of the Appropriation bill in line with provisions of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as altered.
Speaking with newsmen, Rt Hon Oborevwori commended the early presentation of the Appropriation Bill by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, saying that the House is also committed to the early passage of the financial document.
He said the first reading of the bill was taken on the day of the presentation, while the bill was read the second time five days after following robust debates on its merits to the development of the state and its people.
The Speaker explained that the ongoing defense by the various MDAs was to scrutinize the proposed budget, looking at the performances of the various government establishments and agencies in the 2021 fiscal year and their projections for 2022.
Rt Hon Oborevwori said so far the exercise has been seamless and commended the various standing committees for their determination to the early passage of the budget.
The Speaker also commended the journalists covering the state legislature for the good reportage of the legislative assignment.
