The Delta State Ministry of Youth Development is proposing the sum of N1.6 Billion for the 2022 fiscal year.
The Commissioner for Ministry of Youth Development, Comrade Ifeanyi Egwuyenga, disclosed this when he led officials of the ministry to the ongoing budget defense session before the Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Youths and Sports Development.
The Youth Development Commissioner, Comrade Ifeanyi Egwuyenga said the proposed Budget amount represents N1.4 Billion Capital, N196 Million Non-regular Overhead and N16 Million Regular Overhead.
Briefing the Committee on the activities of the Ministry in the outgoing year, Comrade Egwuyenga noted that in the 2021 fiscal year, the sum of N1.3 Billion was approved for the Ministry.
The approved Budget, according to the Commissioner was made up of N1.2 Billion Capital, N87.5m as Non-regular Overhead and N16m as regular Overhead.
The Commissioner disclosed that in the outgoing fiscal year, the Ministry generated N1.6 Million revenue between January and October, 2021.
He explained that considering the current realities and the enormous task before the Ministry, and the need for the it to continually engage youths within the State with quality program, that was the need for the Committee to consider an upward review of the proposed year 2022 Budget estimate.
The Chairman of the Committee, Hon Fred Martins commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for the administration’s huge commitment to youth development in the state.
Hon Martins and other members who spoke said youth involvement in the development of the society is very critical, saying that any investment in that regards should be supported and pledged the commitment of the committee to more meaningful engagement of youths in the state.
Hon Martin who stated that the legislature understands the constraints faced by the ministry, however expressed the need for a better synergy between the ministry and members of the committee.
Similarly, the State Local Government Service Commission and the Directorate of Local Government Affairs, have appeared before Hon Felix Anirah House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to Defend their 2022 budget proposals.
The Local Government Service Commission told the Committee members that it is proposing the sum of N38.4 Million for the 2022 fiscal year.
Breakdown of the Budget proposal, according to the Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Joseph Otirhue shows N32.4 Million as proposed Capital Expenditure and N6 Million as recurrent.
In the same vein, the Directorate of Local Government Affairs as presented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government Affairs, Prince Kelly Penawou, is proposing a total Budget envelope of N305.6 Million for the 2022 Financial Year.
Breakdown of the budget proposal, according to Penawou is N151.3 Million as Capital Expenditure and N154.2 Million as recurrent Expenditure.
The Chairman of the Committee, Hon Felix Anirah pledged the support of the committee.
The Directorate of Chieftaincy affairs also appeared before the Hon Anirah led Committee.
