Delta Audit Law Amendment Bill Gains Accelerated Legislative Actions At Plenary.

A Bill for a Law to amend the Delta State Audit Law 2021, Thursday gained accelerated legislative actions on the floor of the State House of Assembly.

The House at plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, took the the first, second and third readings of the bill and passed.

Motion for the passage of the Bill was moved by the Majority leader of the House, Hon. Ferguson Onwo, seconded by the Member representing Warri South-West, Hon Emomotimi Guwor and unanimously adopted.

For the bill to scaled through second and third reading , the House had through a motion also by the Majority Leader moved for suspension of relevant sections of the rules of the House to pave way for its eventual passage.

The Speaker, Sheriff Oborevwori commended his colleagues for their commitment and dedication to the speedy passage of the amendment Bill.

Speaking in an interview with journalists minutes after the passage of the Bill, the Chairman, House Committee on Public Accounts, and member representing Ika North East in the House, Hon Anthony Elekeokwuri said the amended Bill is aimed at strengthening transparency and accountability in Governance.

Hon Elekeokwuri also stated that the amendment was to bring the principal law to be in tandem with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as well as to make it implementable.

Meanwhile the Auditor-General State and the Auditor-General Local Government, have appeared before the State Assembly Committee on Public Accounts to defend the 2022 budget proposals of their establishments.

The Chairman of the Committee, Hon Anthony Elekeokwuri at the budget defense session stressed the need for Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the state Government to strictly adhered to the audit law and other related financial laws in the state.

The Lawmaker charged the two top Auditors of the state and local government administrations in the state to ensure enhanced performance of their offices in the 2022 fiscal year.
