The Delta State Sports Commission says it generated N904 Thousand Naira revenue in the outgoing fiscal year as against the projected revenue of N21 Million.
The Chairman of the Commission, Chief Tonobok Okowa made this known when he led top management staff of the commission to the Hon Fred Martins led State Assembly Committee on Youth and Sports Development for the ongoing 2022 Budget Defense on MDAs in the state.
The Executive Chairman of the Commission, Chief Tonobok Okowa told the Lawmakers that out of the sum of N1.8 Billion that was approved for the Commission in the 2021 Budget for capital project, only N259 Million has so far been released.
The projected capital Budget according to Okowa, was intended for projects such as construction of swimming pool at Oghara, maintenance of Warri Stadium, Development of Sapele Stadium, Construction of Mini Stadium at Issele-Uku, construction of Otu-Jeremi Mini Stadium, Agbor Mini Stadium, completion and provision of auxiliary facilities at Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, among others.
He explained that the total Capital release for the year under review represented 13.8 per cent
On recurrent, Okowa told the Lawmakers that the commission has so far received N650.7 Million out of the N1.2 that was approved for it in the 2021 Budget.
For the 2022 Budget, the Commission is asking for N9.4 Billion.
Breakdown of the proposals shows N3.8 Billion for Capital projects, N4.1 Billion for Special Areas and Recurrent, N1.5 Billion for personnel Cost and N26.1 Million as Regular Overhead.
Chief Okowa said during the 2022 fiscal year, the Commission is targeting about N40 Million as revenue for the State.
Members of the Committee commended the Commission for the feat it has so far recorded in the area of sports development and sporting activities in the State.
The Fred Martins led Committee assured the Commission of its continued support.
