St, George’s College Diamond Jubilee: Old Boys To Launch E-Library, N100m Appeal Fund, Others

As Saint George’s College Obinomba (SAGOBA) in Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State marks it’s diamond Jubilee this weekend, the Old Boys Association has perfected plans to give back to their alma mater more Infrastructural developments that would aid teaching and learning in the college that will serve as a referral centre of academic excellence in Nigeria.

At a press briefing in Asaba, Delta State capital, the SAGOBA National President, Engr. Cosmos Nwanwene in company of other executive members of the Association said the purpose of the press conference was to let the world know about the celebration of the School’s Diamond Jubilee and arrangements to launch numerous projects among which is the launching of the e-Library and one hundred million naira appeal fund for the development of the College.

Engr. Nwanwene who narrated how the college helped changed their lives, modelled and transformed them to great men, pointed out it became necessary to let the world know the college diamond Jubilee.

Nwanwene who went memory lay said, the College was a Catholic School before government takeover it before returning it to Catholic.

He further explained that within this period of ten years, alot of things went wrong including infrastructural decay among others and all thanks to the old boys for working hard to revert to the old standard ways.

While recounting some of their achievements in recent times, he said the association have reroofed the hall, the college fencing is ongoing and many other things.

Adding to the national President’s speech, Chief Onyemesi Gabriel, who revealed that the Old Boys single handedly built a modern ICT Center but however decried the damage done by government within that ten years of administration.

He pointed out that since the college has returned to missionary, the Alumni Association took it as a challenge to make sure the infrastructural facilities as well as academic standard restored.

Also speaking, the Principal of the college, Revd Harrison Egwuonwu noted that the School is worthy of celebrating having produced great men who are nation-builders and whose achievements are groundbreaking in every sphere of life.

“The school is a missionary school that passed many stages we are now celebrating the 60th Anniversary, Principal added.

St, George’s College has produced notable and distinguished Nigerians include; Philip Emeagwali, a computer scientist, known for inventing the world fastest computer, the current Deputy President of the Senate, His Excellency, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, among others.
