Delta Government To Partner UK Government On Digital Literacy Programme

In furtherance of its determination to ensure that citizens of Delta State acquire the necessary skills and become digital literate in a 21st century digital economy, the state government is to partner with the UK Foreign Common Wealth and Development Office (FCDO) in a Basic Digital Literacy Programme for rural clusters in the state.

According to a statement from the Office of the Secretary to the Delta State Government, the Basic Digital Literacy Programme in Nigeria is a project that is co-funded by the UK Foreign Common Wealth and Development office (FCDO) in partnership with selected state governments.

In line with arrangements put in place, Tech4dev has been named as the implementing agent for the project.
The participating states are required to provide suitable venues, computer facilities, internet data, recruitment and welfare of participants as their contribution to the project, the statement said.

As contained in the statement, the programme targets mainly vulnerable women and girls, persons with disabilities, out of school children, non computer literate community members and children and teenagers aged between 11 and 18 years in primary 6 and Junior/Senior Secondary Schools.

The Basic Digital Literacy Training has been slated to hold across the state from Monday November 29, 2021 in Asaba, Ughelli and Warri.

The training is designed to run in ten modules with the aim to empower 390 Deltans in the first phase to carter for 130 participants each across the three venues.
According to the statement, venue for the training in Asaba is the Delta State Library, Marian Babangida Way, the Warri venue is College of Education and Ughelli has Michael and Cecilia Ibru University, Agbaro-Otor, as venue.
