Delta State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu has commended Unity School Old Students’ Association, Agbarho for their inspiring contributions towards the overall development of the school.
Ezewu made the commendation in her office in Asaba when some executive and members of the association led by its President, Mr. Daniel Agbotode paid her a courtesy call .
The commissioner who described their achievements for the school as laudable, said that such initiative must be embraced by all just as she noted that their contributions would have direct positive effect on the students.
She underscored the importance of perimeter fence in schools, adding that it would go along way in protecting school facilities from being destroyed by miscreants.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary , Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Augustine Ede Oghoro lauded the association for supporting the State Government in ensuring that the school was conducive for effective teaching and learning.
Oghoro reiterated the need for a synergy with the government and relevant stakeholders in the education sector with a view to ensuring that the available resources was optimised for the benefits of schools and students in particular.
In his remarks, the President of Unity School Old Students’Association, Mr. Daniel Agbotode stated that they were in the commissioner’s office to intimate her of their achievements for the school and to also inform her of their challenges.
He said that the association had carried out several projects in the school to include the renovation of two hostel blocks, donation of E – Library materials and provision of over 100 chairs for students of the school, adding that in their needs assessment they had identified the need to provide high breed solar power and E- library materials to support learning activities.
Agbotode who appealed to the State Government to provide perimeter fencing for the school as a deliberate strategy to avert incidents of unnecessary penetration of vandals into the school to destroy school equipment.
