Amidst growing speculations that the 26 year old Vice Chairman of Aniocha South Local Government, Hon. Amaka Adigwe has been remanded in prison, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Edafe Bright has indeed confirmed that the youthful politician got bail and so not in jail.
The PPRO said all the parties to the case are expected to return to the court on the 15th of March, 2022, for further hearing and decision on the matter.
Hon. Amaka Adigwe and three others were arrested based on the allegation of assault by the Police, wherein they were ordered to be remanded in prison custody by a Magistrate in Asaba, but she was able to secure bail.
Anioma Trust Correspondent reliably carried out a thorough investigation into the matter and discovered that what happened the night that the four persons were arrested was rather an unfortunate act of provocation, which mischief makers are now trying to blow out of proportion.
The Vice Chairman who is a daughter of a renowned political leader in Aniocha South and former Member of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Joe Adigwe was actually returning from the naming ceremony of her elder sister’s baby on that fateful evening.
Our source revealed that the vehicle (SUV) that she drove in did not belong to her as claimed by most reports, but actually that of her brother in-law, Samuel Agu who was dropping her off with other persons coming behind in a second vehicle.
It was gathered that the vehicle she was in had already passed where the policemen were stationed around Konwea Plaza along Nnebisi road, only to discover that the second vehicle was not following.
In a bid to go back to find out what was amiss, they met serious argument where the policemen were allegedly dragging the passengers out of the vehicle in desperate attempt to search them.
While the guys were resisting such force and refusing to be searched in such unfriendly manner, claiming not to be Yahoo boys; Hon. Amaka Adigwe was in actual sense begging the officers to calm down and settle the matter amicably.
Just in that process according to an eye witness, one of the policemen turned his phone camera on Amaka and started filming her.
Surprised that a Police officer could be the one filming her even when she was pleading for peaceful resolution of the dispute, she was now asking him, “why are you filming me, do you know me that you are filming me?”.
As the officer didn’t want to stop, she now had to fling her hand towards the officer’s held phone in a bid to stop him from filming her, and that was the slap that the whole social media had been awashed with.
According to an anonymous politician in the state who made an appeal in a comment box of a post related to the issue, he appealed to the parties to resolve the issue amicably in the interest of societal value and sanity.
He said the Vice Chairman is a well brought up daughter of a well known politician in the state, who has paid his due politically without any dirt to his name.
He also admonished politicians who might be unhappy with Hon. Amaka Adigwe’s rising political profile not to cash in on this issue to destroy her political career.
“It is evident that Amaka is not the major actor in this issue but the boys who have muscles to argue and even fight. Amaka was just pleading and couldn’t have had that strength and temerity as a woman to slap a Police officer in the way it was painted. She is just a woman, not minding the society of ours that does not allow for female intimidation”, he said.
Others who made comment, condemned any attempt by any individual to assault security personnel on duty for any reason. However, they also advised mischief makers not to capitalise on social media opportunity to begin to misinform the ignorant public.
