Coalition for Media Politics and Governance, CMPG, has adopted the Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori,.as governorship candidate for 2023 election.
The group adopted him at her April 2022 meeting held at Government House Asaba on Thursday 7th April. The motion was moved by CMPG Deputy Chairman, Delta South, Hon Toju Ekengbuda and seconded by Hon Monday Odaka, Delta Central and Engr Emmanuel Chuks Momah, Delta North Senatorial District, respectively.
CMPG Chairman and Executive Assistant to Delta State Governor on Communications, Chief Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, said the adoption of Oborevwori was overwhelming as members unanimously voted “I” and no “nay” vote recorded, adding that Mr Speaker has become the toast and the beautiful bride for all Deltans as far as the governorship race to Osadebe House Asaba is concerned.
“CMPG recognised the long political and leadership antecedents of Mr Speaker dated back to 1996 when he was first elected as Councillor and Supervisory Councillor in Okpe LGA under the Zero party system.
“It is important to also note that Oborevwori is a core Pan Deltan political gladiator who over the years played politics of no bitterness which singled him out among other governorship aspirants as a Unifier and highly detribalised leader of no mean repute.
“Our indefatigable governor and promise keeper, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, has set high standard in terms of socioeconomic and infrastructure development.
“Gov Okowa who is CMPG grand patron is the authentic political leader of Delta State and the arrowhead of the New Stronger Delta agenda.
“It is only fair for another goal driven individual to step into the large shoes of the governor in 2023. And that competent individual is our Principal, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, JP.
“It is on the basis of this truism that the entire members of CMPG after scrutinizing all the aspirants resolved that Oborevwori has the capacity, competence, tenacity and leadership skills to unify all ethnic nationalities, deploy equity in governance, and do more in advancing Delta socioeconomic and infrastructure development.
“Therefore, we align with our big brother, Delta Political Vanguard, DPV, and the state legislators representing 28 state constituencies to adopt Oborevwori as CMPG sole governorship candidate in this dispensation,” the group said.
The group also celebrated the birthday anniversary of the Senior Special Assistant to Delta State Governor on Project Monitoring, Hon Engr Emmanuel Momah and Mr. Austin Azu, Delta Correspondent of ITV who recently bagged a Masters degree in Mass Communication from the Federal National Open University, NOUN. Both celebrants are members of CMPG.
Highlight of the April 2022 meeting was the inauguration of a 7-Man special Committee for the launching of the book titled “The Man,.Okowa,” written by the Publicity Secretary of CMPG, Hon Tagbarha Malcolm.
The book shall be launched on Tuesday May 10th, 2022 in Asaba.
