President General of Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, Chief Joe Orode Omene has described the purported endorsement of one of the Urhobo PDP Governorship Aspirants, Olorogun David Edevwie by an Illegal UPU body headed by one Ijaw man, Chief Moses Taiga as unfortunate, preposterous and an act capable of causing disunity, disaffection among Urhobo sons and daughters.
The UPU President General disclosed this while addressing a Press Conference on Wednesday 20th April, 2022 at his country home in Mosogar, Ethiope West Local Government Area of the state, maintaining that, the UPU has not endorse any Governorship Aspirant in Delta because UPU is not a political party and as such, described what Moses Taiga and his group did as illegal, personal and not of Urhobo interest.
Joe Omene said that the UPU of Aziza, Mukoro Monye and other past President Generals in their time always listen to voice of wisdom, consult properly inorder to avoid plugging the Urhobo Nation in to confusion.
The PG while still speaking, asserted that what UPU does is to have an intensive consultations from various stakeholders among the UPU such as; Kingdom President Generals, Women’s wing,(Eghweya), Youth Wing, (Ighele), and suggest to the incumbent Governor Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and party Heirachy aimed at guiding the party on the choice of a particular Urhobo aspirant that will fly the party’s gubernatorial ticket.
” I am not surprised at what Moses Taiga and his group have done to themselves and not the Urhobo Nation”
” what do you expect from a man who is not an Urhobo?.” Moses Taiga is an Ijaw man and he can not make a choice for Urhobo Nation”
” What played out few days ago is not of the entire Urhobo interest and as the President General of UPU, I am saying now that UPU has not endorse any Urhobo Governorship Aspirant in Delta”
” you see, people should be mindful of what they do with the name of UPU ; using it for their own selfish personal gain is not in the best interest of the Urhobo Nation”
“the incumbent Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and the party Hierarchy are in position to determine who flys the party’s Governorship Ticket, after UPU’s consultation because, UPU is not a political party”
“UPU will soon come out with an official statement after due consultation with the UPU stakeholders”. He stated.
Joe Omene while calling on the entire Urhobo Nation to remain calm, added that Urhobo sons and daughters who are Governorship Aspirants are free to consult the UPU if they like, maintaining that, UPU does not invite aspirants but it is only aspirants who wish to see the UPU can do so and not the other way round like in the case of Moses Taiga.
