There are several 2023 governorship aspirants currently jostling to be governor Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa’s successor. It is obviously the number one plum job in the state, garnished with prestige, authority and power.
They are eminently qualified but there is one special and unique aspirant among them. And if you like call him “The King of All Governorship Aspirants,” Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, JP, the incumbent speaker of Delta State House of Assembly. He is man of integrity and aristocratic dignity.
Oborevwori is a grounded politician and haven been in the political radar of Delta State, for nearly three decades and still counting. He grew up as an independent young man under the mentorship of his wealthy father of blessed memory, very enterprising, honest, respectful and trust worthy individual, loved by all and sundry.
He is a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, haven served as Councilor and Supervisory Councillor during the Zero party system in 1996. His name rings a bell in Delta State, for good and not for evil. His God given wisdom is unsurpassed and always calm and diligent in his assigned responsibilities. Highly productive and honest in his dealings across board. Oborevwori is a lovable personality, always willing to give a helping hand to the poor, needy and aged in our society.
Many years ago as a youth, Oborevwori led a team of visionary youth in Osubi community to lobby for the construction of Osubi Airport and supervised activities of the project, which today is one of the busiest commercial hubs in the air transportation industry in Nigeria. His giant strides are worthy of emulation by young and old people who sees him as a role model.
In his early 20s as a young man, Sheriff Oborevwori was unanimously elected Chairman of Osubi Community in Okpe Local Government Area and championed massive development of the community and by extension Okpe LGA. Oborevwori’s credible and result oriented leadership earned him the prestigious traditional titled of Ukodo of Okpe Kingdom, bestowed on him by his Royal Majesty, the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom.
In the political milieu, Sheriff Oborevwori is a founding member of PDP and remained loyal and committed to the ideals of the party without history of temporary defection to pursue his political ambition. He is stable in character, predictable, reliable and trustworthy in all ramifications. He is the King of all Governorship Aspirants in the present electioneering period in Delta State, as a result of his massive endorsements and popularity ahead of others.
He held several positions in the past administration of Chief James Ibori and was appointed Special Adviser on Security Matters by former governor Emmanuel Uduaghan and served without blemish. Oborevwori is a giver, an empowerment ambassador for PDP everywhere he went and also provides scholarships for indigent students in secondary and higher institutions of learning through his foundation, well managed and administered by people of high reputations and dignity.
In 2015, he was elected member representing Okpe State Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, and subsequently elected by his colleagues as Speaker of the 6th and 7th Assemblies, five years ago. Oborevwori is the longest serving Speaker since the creation of Delta State and still in the saddle. His tenure is reputed for team work, synergy, integrity, honesty, accountability, transparency and people friendly.
His emergence as the Pan Delta Aspirant and 2023 most preferred governorship candidate was as a result of his good deeds and charismatic leadership qualifies; built political bridges and believe strongly in One God, One Delta and One People. Oborevwori’s detribalised nature is what brought about his choice as a Pan Delta Governorship candidate through numerous endorsements.
First to endorse Oborevwori was Delta State Legislators led by the Deputy Speaker and House Leader, Rt Hon Ochor Christopher Ochor and Hon Chief Ferfuson Onwo. Followed by the most formidable political pressure group in Delta State, Delta Political Vanguard, PDP, led by political astronaut, Hon Evangelist Michael Diden aka Ejele, PDP leaders and Delegates in Delta South, Delta North and Delta Central also adopted Oborevwori as their sole governorship candidate.
PDP party structures from ward to state levels openly disassociated itself from the recent endorsement of an unpopular governorship aspirant, David Edevbie, obviously to register their unalloyed support for Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, the King of all Governorship Aspirants in the state also referred to by majority of Deltans as the Pan Delta Incoming Governor.
Oborevwori was also endorsed by Delta Mandate, a group made up of top class politicians in the state with spread across the 25 local government areas. DM is on top of the game mobilizing all past and present senior political appointees and other categories of public officers and elected representatives to deliver the Pan Delta Governorship Candidate, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, JP, the Ukodo of Okpe Kingdom and National Deputy Chairman of Conference of Speakers in Nigeria. He is generally accepted as the anointed successor of incumbent Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa.
Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E agenda is premised on; Meaningful Development, Opportunity for all Deltans, Realistic Reforms and Enhanced Peace and Security, towards Advancing Delta State from 2023 and beyond. These subject heads are further expanded to conform with the Okowa administration’s laudable SMART and Stronger Delta mantras so as to enable Sheriff Oborevwori do more for Deltans as the peoples’ Governor.
He is a unifier, a servant-leader, not a divider. He is a humble leader, not an arrogant and disrespectful leader. He is a giver, not a miser, no super glue gum in his hands. Open and kind hearted but firm, tactful, prudent in managing public funds and resources, and a disciplinarian par excellence.
