Chairman, Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Urban Renewal, Hon Pereotu Oloye has assured the ministry of Urban Renewal of robust synergy with members of the committee in actualizing the State government’s vision of development of new towns and cities in the state.
Hon Oloye gave the assurance when officials of the ministry of Urban Renewal appeared before the Committee in the ongoing budget defence by MDAs in the State Assembly.
He said development of new urban center was key and commended the proactive disposition of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in the implementation of his MORE agenda.
The Lawmaker who represents Burutu two constituency, promised that the oversight functions of the Committee would be carried out efficiently and effectively to promote development and prosperity in the state.
Hon Oloye also acknowledged the support of the Speaker, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor at ensuring that the legislature maintained its pride of place in good governance of the state.
Commissioner incharge of the Ministry of Urban Renewal, Engr. Michael Anoka, restated the commitment of the Delta State Government to urban renewal in the state, hence the proposed sum of N7.5 Billion for the 2024 fiscal year.
He said the proposed budget is aimed at enhancing the urban renewal drive of the current administration.
The Commissioner told the committee members that as part of requirements in driving the urban renewal vision of the State Government, there was the need for the engagement of more town planners in the State.
Pegging the required number of proposed town planners to 80, the Commissioner sought the assistance of the House committee in achieving the result.
Meantime, the Chairman, Assembly Committee on Lands, Survey and Urban Development, Hon Fred Martins, has charged officials of the ministry to up their games in the actualization of Governor Sheriff Oborevrwori’s vision in that sector.
Hon Martins, representing Warri North and Deputy Chief Whip of the House, gave the charge when the Commissioner incharge of the ministry, Chief Emamusi Obiodeh, led the officials to defend the 2024 budget proposal of the ministry.
The Lawmaker acknowledged the performance of the ministry in the outgoing 2023, but said there was the need for improvement in line with the MORE mantra of the state government.
Commissioner Lands, Surveys and Urban Development, Chief Emamusi Obiodeh, had told the Lawmakers that the State Government have adequate land to provide for serious investors with capacity to create new towns and industrial parks in Delta State.
Defending the 2024 budget proposal of the ministry, Obiodeh said the
Ministry is ready to digitalize its operations from manual to automated system to eliminate delays in delivery, which would also increase the revenue generation of the state
The Lands Commissioner further said when completed property investors could access information on government portals relating to properties and land in Delta State from anywhere in the world.
