Delta State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, has ordered two contractors handling projects for the board to return to site and adhered to specifications or forfeit payments from government.
Chairman of the board Honourable Samuel Mariere gave the order during an ongoing inspection and monitoring projects being executed in schools across the state.
The contractors ordered back to sites are Gover Limited, the firm that installed an Indian Mac three hand Water Pumps at Ovwore primary school, Ibada-Amukpe in Okpe local government area and All Seasons Perfect Enterprise, the firm that constructed a three block of class rooms at Apelebiri Owei Primary school in Patani local government area.
The SUBEB Chairman represented by the Chairman of the project monitoring commitee and second member of the board, Comrade Akpogherhe Onome frowned at the shoddy jobs executed by the contractors.
He observed that the Indian Mac three hand pump at the Ovwore primary school, Ibada-Amukpe in Okpe Local government area does not supply water.
Mariere also noted that the construction of the three block of class rooms at the Apelebiri Owei primary school in Patani Local government area did not meet the specifications in the contract agreement.
The Board Chairman observed that the project was already failing, adding that the foundation was having defects as well as the doors and windows.
Mariere stressed that the state government under the leadership of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori will not condone contractors delivering poor quality jobs.
He therefore called the two contracting firms return to site or risk being blacklisted as well as forfeit payment.
The Chairman reiterated that the board will not tolerate substandard jobs from any contractor in the state, adding that total compliance to government specifications must be adhered to by all contractors.
Mariere while assuring school heads of more government intervention in areas of infrastructures and a conducive learning environment also urged Heads of school and teachers in the rural areas to resume duty early and discharge their duties as well as maintain clean environment.
Some natives of the Apelebiri community who spoke to the project monitoring committee said they observed that the contractor was not doing the right thing, but refused to take advice when he was approached.
They commended the board for taking steps to verify projects in the state, while also appealing to SUBUB to consider the community for employment of their indigenes and provision of secondary school in the community.
The project monitoring team were also at Omosuoma community of Ughelli South local government area, a riverine community to inspect a three block class rooms and commended the contractor for delivery a quality project despite the difficult terrain of the area.
