Uviejitobor Promises To Promote Sustainable Development In Oil And Gas Sector

Newly appointed Commissioner for Oil and Gas in Delta State, Hon Peter Uviejitobor has promised to promote sustainable development and environmental stewardship in the oil and gas sector in the state.

Speaking shortly after his swearing in, along side five others as Commissioners and members of the Delta State Executive Council by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Hon Uviejitobor also promised to work with other critical stakeholders to minimize the negative impacts of oil exploration and exploitation on the environment.

The Commissioner said oil remains the mainstay of Nigeria economy, and that the Delta state government is determined to maintain the number one position in the industry.

Hon Uviejitobor stated that sustainable peaceful environment, good synergy and harmony amongst stakeholders, are essential ingredients to achieving increase production with the benefits that goes with it.

He restated government’s commitment to foster collaboration and partnership between oil and gas companies operating in Delta State and their host communities, to reduce fictions and conflicts.

Uviejitobor, a two term member of the Delta State Assembly and immediate past Special Adviser to the Governor on government affairs, said there was the need to implement policies that promote local content and capacity building in the industry.

He promised that the Delta State Ministry of Oil and Gas under his watch will sustain efforts in that regards in line with the reform agenda of the state Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori.

He said government will continue to interface with host communities and oil and gas firms to ensure that Memorandum of Understanding, MOU, entered into were implemented for peaceful coexistence.

Uviejitobor disclosed that he is in a familiar terrain as he has vast experience in hydrocarbon field and promise to render selfless service to the state.

The Oil and Gas Commissioner appreciated Governor Oborevwori for the appointment and assured that he will contribute meaningfully to the MORE Agenda of the administration.

Uviejitobor appealed for the support of every stakeholders, including key players in the oil and gas industry as well as oil and gas bearing communities in the state.
