Ogbma Primary School Ogwashi-Uku in Aniocha South local government area of Delta State, has won the Second Edition of the State’s School Sports Competition.
Organized by the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, Ogbma Primary School Ogwashi-Uku, top the medal table during the finals of the competition held at Delta State the University Science and Technology, Ozoro in Isoko North Local Government Area.
The competition which commenced on the 12th of September had 24 Primary Schools in the state competing for medals.
Ogoma primary school Ogwashi-Uku defeated Orhunwhonrun Primary School, Orhunwhonrun in Udu local government area by three goals to one goal.
Executive Chairman, Delta State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Hon Samuel Mariere commended winners of the competition, including the schools that came 2nd and 3rd positions.
Hon Mariere explained that the second edition of the Basic Education School Sports was aimed at revitalizing sporting activities at Primary education level in Delta State.
He said the importance of sports in academic development and promoting friendship amongst the pupils cannot be over emphasized, even as he commended UBEC for collaborating with the state in achieving the set goal.
The SUBEB Boss, assured that the board would continue to promote grassroots sports development through procurement of sport materials and organization of competitions for the pupils in Basic Education Schools in the state.
The Former Lawmaker commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for giving his support to the laudable programme through the provision of counterpart funding for Subeb in the state.
Mariere also appreciated Commissioner for Primary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogu for his support as well as the Desk Officer, School Sports, UBEC Office Abuja, Mrs Lydia Gbagi and others who contributed in making the competition a huge success.
The one time Commissioner for Water Resources Development, noted that sports was not all about winning but for healthy living, mental alertness and friendship and called for greater attention in that regard.
Flanked by the Members Representing Delta Central and Delta South in the board as well as the Permanent Secretary and Directors, Hon Mariere expressed satisfaction on the level standard of the organizations of the Second Edition of the Basic Education School Sports and assured the pupils of third edition next year.
The Desk Officer Sports, Basic Education Scchool sport, BESS, Dr Lydia Gbagi, lauded the outcome of the finals of the sports meet.
She said sport is a universal activity and money spinning venture industry that has made people rich and famous, saying that talents discovered should be encouraged to succeed.
High point of the spot event was the presentations of medals to the winner and the runners up by the Subeb Chairman, Hon Samuel Mariere and the Primary Education Commissioner, Dr Kingsley Ashibogu.
