Nigerian youths have been encouraged to explore agricultural investment and entrepreneurship as a viable solution to the country’s high unemployment rate.
Delta State Commissioner for Youth Development, Barr. Harry ThankGod Trakiriowei, made this call while speaking to newsmen in his office in Asaba on the occasion of this year’s World Food Day, celebrated annually on October 16.
This international day commemorates the founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in 1945 and aims to promote global awareness and action against hunger and malnutrition.
Trakiriowei emphasized the importance of youth engagement in agriculture, urging governments to create awareness about the Youth Employment in Agriculture Programme and provide training, policies, and an enabling environment to motivate young people.
As Nigeria marks World Food Day under the theme ‘Right to Food: For a Better Life and a Better Future,’ the commissioner stressed that agriculture offers youths an opportunity for impact, job security, and innovation.
With Nigeria’s agricultural sector historically dominating the economy, Trakiriowei encouraged youths to leverage fresh ideas and creative solutions to drive agricultural productivity, food security, and national revenue growth.
