Convener of Integrity Group of Delta State, Dr. Oke Idawene has described as preposterous and illusory for anyone to alleged that Delta State teeters on brinks of collapse on account of ‘Yahoo boys floating the economy amidst government neglect’.
Idawene who reacted to the claim in a statement said it was misleading for anyone to insinuate that Delta state teeters on brinks of collapse at a time the state government under governor Oborevwori is making efforts to build economy of the state.
He noted that Delta state still thrives as hub of economic activities on account of strict implementation of the MORE agenda of governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration.
“Yesterday, the governor gave out starter up packs to 311 beneficiaries of the Women Economic Skill Acquisition Programme, WESAP of the state government in his determination to expand the frontiers of entrepreneurial development in the state.
“The beneficiaries were made up of 220 women trained in fashion and design, hair dressing, catering, decoration and event management and make up/gele tying as well as and 91 persons with disabilities who were trained in ICT, confectionaries, fashion and design, leather work and industrial production.
“This and many other programmes the state government has initiated to revive the middle class. Coupled with many projects the administration has embarked upon all in a bid to ensure that the development of the state is accelerated.”
The Convener quoted the governor as saying; “426 artisans, petty traders, and female entrepreneurs have been supported, pointing out that 6,000 farmers have received empowerment, with fertilizers distributed across the 25 local government areas of the state.
“Oborevwori’s administration has also focused on Agriculture under the Result Area ll of the Fadama Food Security of the D-CARES Scheme as well as the release of ₦1 billion counterpart funding from the African Union Development Agency, New Partnership for Africa Development to empower 2,000 farmers for food production in the state.”
According to him; “These are various efforts by the governor to revive the economy and ensure the welfares of the citizens are guaranteed. So for one to allege otherwise by giving credit to criminal in the guise of Yahoo, is pure mischief.” Idawene added.
