The Convener, Integrity Group of Delta State, Dr. Oke Idawene has said the donation of 31 operational vehicles to the Police and other security agencies in the state to strengthen their operations by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is an indication that the governor cares about the security and welfares of Deltans.
Oborevwori on Monday rebranded the ‘Delta Hawk’ to ‘Operation Delta Sweep’ to reflects the administration’s resolve to reduce crime to its barest minimum and to support this effort, he donated 31 vehicles, including 23 pickups and eight Sienna wagons, in addition to four Hilux vehicles previously delivered. This brings the fleet to 66 vehicles, aimed at enhancing daily patrols, especially during the Ember Months.
Idawene who commended the governor over the donation said security of lives and properties requires more than information sharing but coordinated efforts, partnership, innovative thinking, well trained personnel and the required gadgets and operational vehicles.
“I want to appeal for the support of all stakeholders for the security agencies so as to ensure peace and security in our state. The challenge of ensuring peace and security of our state and Nigeria should not be left for government alone.
“We cannot continue to leave the affairs of security just to the government alone; individuals who are blessed, corporate organisations should continue to support police in their work so that they can have the best in delivering their duties because when they have the best working environment they are likely to be more civil in their duties.
“As a country and as a people we must realise that we require the partnership of the police and we ought to be their partners if we want things to work, the private sector should support the security agencies to ensure peace and security in the country.”
Idawene expressed gratitude to governor Oborevwori for taking the security of Deltans as priority as evident in the operational vehicles he donated to enhance the fight against crime in the state saying it was indication of the governor’s commitment to the safety and security of the people is unwavering.
He also appealed to the security agencies to up their activities by ensuring tight security night and day especially during this yuletide to justify the confidence reposed on them by the state government saying peace and security are key components of the MORE agenda mantra.
