In a significant development for the Delta Queens Football Club, the Delta State Sports Commission through its Chairman, Mr. Onoriode Oborevwori has announced the payment of outstanding off season salaries owed to the players by previous administration.
Mr. Onoriode who promised Deltans during his Inauguration as Board Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, that his administration will prioritized settling all debts own the football club and other athletes in the State, and ensure the financial stability of the team and maintain morale among the players, thank the state governor, His Excellency Rt Hon Elder Sheriff Oborevwori for providing the funds within a shot notice of the sports Commission, while assuring the governor that the payment will further spoiled the girls to be more committed to winning trophies in the up coming football season.
The Sports Commission Director General, Mr. Festus Ohwojero said the decision to pay was very strategic for the development of the club.
He highlighted the importance of timely payments in fostering a positive environment for the athletes, while expressing the Commission commitment to transparency and accountability, stating that, inline with the M.O.R.E. agenda of His Excellency, the governor of Delta State, they are implementing measures to prevent future delays in salary disbursements.
The Club Management led by The General Manager, Chief Awhana Alakis and Players have reacted positively to the news, expressing relief and gratitude for the State Governor, while thanking the Commission Board Chairman and the Director General for their efforts in payment of all outstanding five months salaries for the off season.
According to the GM, the move was expected to strengthen the team’s unity and focus as they prepare for the upcoming season, aiming to perform at their best without the distraction of financial concerns.
