DELTA STATE SPORTS COMMISSION CHAIRMAN, CONGRATULATES DELTA QUEENS GM AWHANA AS NWFL FINANCIAL SECRETARY

In a significant development for women’s football in Nigeria, the Delta State Sports Commission Board Chairman , Mr. Onoriode Oborevwori has congratulated the newly elected general manager of Delta Queens Football Club ” The M.O.R.E. Queens” Chief Mrs Mercy Awhana on her recent election as the financial secretary of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), During the recent 2024 Annual General Assembly of The Nigeria Women Football League held on Tuesday 17th December 2024 , at Fabino Hotel, Garki, FCT, Abuja.

Mr. Onoriode expressed his enthusiasm for her election that will help to pilot the female football league in the next two years, why emphasizing the importance of a sound financial management in promoting the growth and sustainability of women’s football.

The chairman praised the Delta Queens general manager, as she is a round peg in a round hole, while stating that her appointment as the Delta Queens GM was carefully done, based on her track records in the female football business in Delta State.

He assured Deltans, that Hon Awhana will bring her wealth of experience in Sports management in female football in the country, and her commitment to fostering transparency and accountability within the league.

He noted that her expertise would be instrumental in ensuring that financial resources are allocated efficiently, ultimately benefiting the teams and players involved.

Mr. Oborevwori also highlighted his vision of empowering both female and male athletes, and creating a robust infrastructure that will supports their development.

As the league embarks on a new chapter with its fresh leadership, the board chairman reiterated the sports Commission Board will continue to work closely with the financial secretary to achieve her goals, both at the state and at the national level. He expressed confidence that her leadership would pave the way for innovative financial strategies that could attract sponsorships and investments, further elevating women’s football in the country.

The chairman said that his heartfelt congratulations serve as a testament to the league’s commitment to progress and excel in the realm of women’s football.
