Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor has described as unfounded media report that ten members of the House, elected under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, are set to dump the party for All Progressive Congress, APC.
Reacting to concern raised on the issue by the House Leader, Hon Emeka Nwaobi during Tuesday’s plenary session of the Assembly, Rt Hon Guwor enjoined Deltans, particularly PDP faithfuls in the State to discountenance such report which was carried by a section of the media.
He stated that the 22 Members of the PDP currently serving as Legislators in the State Assembly are solidly loyal to the ideals of the party, pointing out that the intention of the rumour mongers is to heat up the polity in the state.
Stressing that Deltans are happy with the PDP administration in Delta state led by Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, the Speaker said there was no reason for such rumour.
Guwor emphasized that Governor Oborevwori is still focused and strong in his MORE agenda, stating that his development strides are impacting greatly on the state and its people.
“The rumour peddler is daydreaming. He is in his own world. PDP in Delta state is strong and intact. Deltans are happy with the MORE agenda of His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
“There was no reason for such rumour as the performing Governor remains focused and strong in his MORE agenda. I enjoin the public to discountenance such rumour as it is unfounded”, Guwor stated.
The Speaker however asked those in opposition parties in the state that are willing to join the PDP to do so as the party’s umbrella is big enough to accommodate everyone.
Majority Leader of the House, Hon Emeka Nwaobi, coming under the item, “Statement By The Leader Of The House” in the Order Paper of Tuesday’s plenary, refuted media report alleging that ten members of the PDP in the House are already warming up to defect to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Nwaobi said all the 22 PDP members in the House are irrevocably committed to the party, stressing that their loyalty is unshakable.
The Majority Leader described the report as false and baseless, noting that it was the handiwork of one of the Leaders of the APC in the State, saying, “it is a figment of the author’s imagination”.
He disclosed that on the contrary, five out of the seven APC members in the State House of Assembly are already indicating interest to join the PDP, adding that their defection plan is being discussed and perfected.
Nwaobi who said members will not be distracted by such rumour, emphasized that there is no indication any where that any member of the PDP in the House is planning to join any other party.
