Delta Ijaw Political Leaders Eulogize Oborevwori’s 19 Months Leadership In Delta ****Pass Vote of Confidence on Governor **Pay Tributes to Late Chief EK Clark

Ijaw Political Leadership in Delta State on Tuesday passed an implicit Vote of Confidence on Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori for his outstanding performance in the last 19 months as Governor and head of government of Delta State.

The leadership in an extraordinary meeting in Asaba, presided over by the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, collectively affirmed their support for the Governor’s second term in office, come 2027.

The group, comprising of Ijaw henchmen and women in Delta State politics as well as elected and appointees of the state government, said there is no vacancy in Dennis Osadebe House, Asaba till 2031.

The Vote of Confidence on Oborevwori, according to the leaders, was to appreciate him for all that his government has done for the Ijaw ethnic nationality and to encourage him for more development and other positive narratives in Ijaw nation.

Motion for the Confidence Vote, was moved by the Chairman, Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Urban Renewal, Hon Pereotu Oloye, who represents Burutu 2 Constituency, seconded by Chief Barry Gbe, a former Commissioner for Economic Planning, now Economic Adviser to the State Governor and unanimously adopted.

The leadership in a communique read out at the end of the meeting by Senior Policy Adviser to the Governor, Chief Funkekeme Solomon, highlighted Oborevwori’s efforts and irrevocable commitment to ensuring that the Ijaws have their pride of place in governance and leadership in Delta State.

The communique reads “The Ijaw Political Leadership of Delta State held their maiden meeting for the year 2025 at the residence of Chief Emmanuel Amgbadugba, today, Tuesday the 18th of February 2025.

“The meeting commenced with the observance of a minute silence in honour of the late Ijaw foremost leader and leader of Southern Nigeria, Pa Edwin Kiagbodo Clark and reviewed the political landscape of Delta State under the leadership of the State Governor, Rt Hon Elder Sheriff F.O. Oborevwori.

The meeting resolved and passed an implicit vote of confidence on the Governor and also threw total support for his second term come 2027. We based our stand on the solid, steering, broad-based and detribalized performance of the Governor in the last 19 months”.

The Leadership specifically appreciated the Governor for some projects so far approved and cited in the Ijaw areas of the state.

They listed some of the projects to include, the Egodo -Ogbeingbene road, Upward review of the Ayakoromo bridge, Okerenkoko-Pepper-Ama-Kokodiagbene road, rehabilitation of the Bomadi- Gbaregolor road, resurfacing and expansion of the Bomadi-Ohoro road, construction of the Aladja Ogbe-Ijoh road phase 2 and scoping of Torugbene-Ojobo road, amongst others.

The Leaders expressed optimism that the Governor will extend more developmental projects to other Ijaw areas in pursuance of his MORE Agenda and solicited the continued support of Ijaw people to the Oborevwori’s led administration in Delta State till 2031.

“We therefore call on all Ijaws to continue their support for the Governor till 2031 as we also express optimism that the Governor will extend developmental projects to all Ijaw areas in the State in furtherance of his MORE Agenda” the communique read.

Earlier at the commencement of the meeting, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor led the Ijaw political leaders to observe a minute silence in honour of the Ijaw national Leader and elder statesman, Pa Edwin Kiagbodo Clark who passed on Monday night at 97.

Guwor paid glowing tribute to late EK Clark for his leadership role in the struggle for freedom and better deal for the people of the deprived Niger Delta region, stressing that his legacies will remain evergreen in the long walk for true identity for the Ijaw nation and South South states in Nigeria.

The meeting had in attendance a cross section of political leaders from the Ijaw ethnic nationality in Delta State including, the Vice Chairman, PDP Delta South, Prince Emma Amgbadugba, serving and former members of the State Assembly, serving and former Commissioners in the state, Council Chairmen, the Principal Secretary to the Governor, Mrs Lyna Ocholor, Special Advisers, Executive Assistants, amongst others.
