In line with the procurement act of 2007, the Delta State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB has assured prospective contractors that the board will follow due process in awarding contracts to be executed in the State public primary schools.
Chairman of SUBEB, Hon. Samuel Mariere gave the assurance on Wednesday at the 2025 1st to 4th quarter bid opening ceremony held at the board’s headquarters in Asaba, the State capital.
Addressing an array of prospective contractors that bided for the intervention projects, Hon Mariere said the bidding process was inline with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s transparent approach to governance and accountability as well as
directive from the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC to State Boards to ensure they comply with the procurement act in awards of projects.
Hon Mariere explained that the bids opening ceremony afforded the board and bidders the opportunity to follow due process, transparency and fairness, adding that only bidders who are qualified for the job would be shortlisted as contractors to projects in public primary schools in the state.
The Subeb Boss maintained that at the end of the bidding processes, the board will rigorously monitor every project awarded in line with approved specification, saying that the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s led administration has zero tolerance for substandard jobs.
Second member of the board and Chairman, project monitoring, Comrade Simon Akpoghere, said SUBEB will not compromise standard as it will ensure that contractors comply with the rules of engagement.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, SUBEB, Mr Bryon Unini disclosed that an evaluation process will be carried out by the board to ascertain the qualification of intending contractors that bided for projects.
Some prospective contractors interviewed commended SUBEB for ensuring transparency in the bids opening process, promising to work hard to delivering quality projects when shortlisted by the board.
They said it was the first time such an organized and transparent process were being observed in the system and appreciated the state Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori for encouraging due process in the governance of the state.
Highpoint of the ceremony was the opening of the bid box by the Chairman and board members as well as unveiling of the first bid.
A total of 221 projects that scattered around public primary schools across the state were being bided by the contractors.
The event was witnessed by the State Coordinator, UBEC, Mrs Sharon Dafiluelo, Official of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, ICPC Delta State, Mr Adira Alison, Civil Society Group, amongst other stakeholders.
