Delta State House of Assembly Service Commission has restated its commitment to developing capacity of the work force in the State Legislature.
Executive Chairman of the Commission, Mr Sunday Ebireri, gave the assurance while flagging off another round of training programme for staff of the Commission, with the theme, “Enhancing Legislative Effectiveness and Support for Improved Governance”.
Ebireri stated that training and retraining has remained a mechanism for enhanced capacity development in any organization, saying that the Commission was not renting in achieving more of such in the state, in accordance with the MORE mantra of the state government.
He said the ongoing training programme was to further equip the bureaucrats with needed skills for effective operations and support to members of the Delta State House of Assembly in enacting laws for peace and good governance of the state.
Describing the Bureaucrats as the engine room of the legislative arm of the state government, Ebireri flanked by other members of the Service Commission, assured of a more focused, committed and responsive workforce for the state legislature.
The Executive Chairman promised that the Commission will continue to update the workforce with current realities in leadership and legislative matters to drive efficient and sustainable legislation.
Mr Ebireri paid glowing tributes the State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori and the Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor, for their unwavering support in promoting democratic values in the state, including access to capacity development.
The Secretary of the Commission, Barr. Austin Uwasike, urged participants of the training programme to be compassionate about the exercise and put to good use knowledge acquired.
Uwasike along side with others who spoke, commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the Speaker, Emomotimi Guwor, for the capacity building programme.
They added that knowledge gained would further help to move legislature towards making laws that would enhance development and social economic activities in the state.
The Resource Person, Mr Charles Ojakovo, said the theme of the training programme, focuses on leadership, management and change, which he said were very relevant to running effective service delivery.
Mr Ojakovo said capacity development cannot be over emphasized in promoting efficiency and good governance in any society, even as he commended stakeholders for the opportunity provided to the participants.
Several topics are expected to be delivered and discussed at the capacity training programme, holding a the Mariam Babangida Leisure Park, Asaba.
