Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC in collaboration with Delta State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Wednesday, kicked off a 4-day scale up training on moral regeneration and reorientation for seven hundred Teachers across the 25 local government areas of the state.
The programme is holding simultaneously at three different centers in the three senatorial districts of Delta state, including Asaba in Oshimili South, Evwreni in Ughelli North and Warri in Warri South local government area.
Executive Chairman, SUBEB Delta State, Hon Samuel Mariere, said the capacity building programme is part of the federal and state government’s strategic partnership to integrate moral education into instruction, school activities, and guidance.
Hon Mariere, in his goodwill message across the three training centers, said UBEC and SUBEB are irrevocably committed to seeking ways at advancing basic education in the state.
He acknowledged that incidents of immorality is on the increase in the academic environment, hence focus on moral regeneration and reorientation to check the devastating consequences in the country’s growth and development.
Mariere, a two term member of the Delta State House of Assembly, and former Commissioner for Water Resources Development, maintained that Nigeria society has witnessed heavy decline in moral standards, which have led to erosion of values, virtues, and ethical practices.
The Subeb Boss who expressed concern over the low turnout of teachers on the first day of the programme, urged those selected for the exercise to take the training seriously.
He stated that the state government under the leadership of Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori was determined to restore lost past glories in basic educational system, including curbing immoral behaviours in schools across the state.
The Subeb Chairman, flanked by the other members of the Board, said the ongoing training is compulsory for all the selected teachers, and asked the Permanent Secretary, Mr Bryan Unini to initiate necessary disciplinary measures on those who were nominated but did not attend the training.
He explained that government cannot afford to waste scars resources on teachers who are not serious to be equipped for the development of the children.
Hon Mariere pledged government’s readiness to build the best children for world champions, even as he reminded teachers on the need to set priorities right to achieving the highest standards in schools.
Some participants who spoke expressed happiness over the training programme and promised to make good use of the opportunity.
They commended UBEC and Delta SUBEB for the exercise which is expected to end on Saturday.
