Delta State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, is organising a five day capacity building programme for 190 ECCDE teachers in the state, using Reggio Emilia.
The training with the theme “Ready, Set and Learn through Play”, is scheduled to commence on Monday 11th August and to end on Friday 15th August 2025, at ENI GRAMMAR SCHOOL, EVWRENI in Ughelli North Local Government Area, beginning at 9am daily.
A statement by the Executive Chairman, Delta Subeb, Hon Samuel Mariere and the Director, Teachers Development, SUBEB, Mrs. Eru Ezefili, says the capacity building is aimed at enhancing ECCDE teachers’ skills in turning classrooms into creative learning hubs with everyday materials for the children early year learners, EYL.
The statement reads, “It is an educational philosophy and pedagogy, centered around a 3- pronged image of the child. The approach originated in a town called Reggio Emilia in Italy. It sees the child as a Capable, Curious and Active learner, rather than a passive receptor of knowledge.
“However, the approach focuses on children’s intellectual, emotional, and social development, with emphasis on Hands on and project based learning, Children explore, question, and construct knowledge as well as Children interact with their environment and peers”.
The statement adds that the training is residential and go with the slogan ‘KG Teachers, Nurturing Young Explorers!’ ‘Nurturing Young Explorers, Shaping Tomorrow’s Leaders!!’.
