SBMC: SUBEB Boss Inaugurates Local Government Areas Executives

Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has inaugurated Local Education Authority School Based Management Committees (SBMCs) across the 25 Local Government Areas of the state.

The Executive Chairman SUBEB, Hon. Samuel Mariere, performed the inauguration at the board’s headquarters in Asaba, with a charge on members to collaborate with both the state and federal governments in restoring the glorious days of public primary education.

Addressing the newly inaugurated SBMC members at the local government level, Hon Mariere, emphasized Governor Oborevwori administration’s deep concern for the deteriorating state of public primary schools in the state.

He noted that many of today’s societal leaders are products of public primary schools, making the restoration of that sector a top priority.

According to the Subeb Boss, the past two years under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori have witnessed significant transformations in the education sector and was not relenting in that regard.

Mariere, a former member of the State Legislature and Commissioner for Water Resources, however expressed concern over the neglect of school facilities by some host communities, despite repeated calls and appeals from government.

He explained that the establishment of the School Based Management Committees is the initiative of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), and adopted by the Delta State Government to promote grassroots involvement in school management and development.

He stated further that membership of the SBMC is voluntary and reserved for credible individuals within the community who are passionate about supporting government’s efforts to revamp public primary education.

Hon Mariere urged the newly inaugurated members to work closely with the State Steering Committee and SUBEB to ensure the effective implementation of policies aimed at improving teaching and learning environments across the state.

The Permanent Secretary of Delta SUBEB, Mr. Byron Unini, and the State Chairman, SBMC, Mr Sunday Okpare, in their remarks, commended the initiative of establishing the management committees at the local government level and pledged full commitment to its objectives.

Some of the Chairmen and newly inaugurated members of the SBMC who spoke assured that all activities will be carried out in line with the guidelines provided to ensure transparency and impact.

The ceremony was attended by management team of the Delta State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB.
