Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly and National Treasurer of the Conference of Speakers of State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has lauded the unveiling of the second edition of the compendium “200 Most Outstanding Deltans”, in Asaba, describing it as a “tribute to excellence” and a celebration of the state’s rich reservoir of talent, vision, and leadership.
Speaking during the public presentation of the about three hundred paged book, the Speaker, represented by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Nkem Nwaeke commended the compilers for their vision in documenting and spotlighting individuals whose efforts and achievements have contributed immensely to the unity, growth, and development of Delta State.
“This initiative is a powerful affirmation of what we can achieve as a people. By recognizing these 200 outstanding Deltans, we are not only celebrating individual excellence, but also creating a valuable source of inspiration for both current and future generations,” Guwor stated.
The Speaker noted that the compendium would serve as a beacon of hope, highlighting the stories of Deltans who have excelled through hard work, resilience, and passion, stressing that such stories foster a culture of innovation, entrepreneurship, and leadership across the state.
“Delta State is blessed with immense potential, and it is heartening to see individuals who have harnessed their talents for the betterment of our society. This compendium is not just a book — it is a legacy, a mirror reflecting the possibilities that lie within each of us,” he added.
Rt. Hon. Guwor further reiterated the commitment of the Delta State House of Assembly to initiatives that uplift the people, promote excellence, and preserve the history of the state. He urged all Deltans to draw motivation from the honorees and continue contributing to the development of a greater Delta State.
In his keynote address, Chairman of the occasion, Air Vice Marshal Frank O. Ajobena (rtd), described the publication as more than a book, calling it “a celebration of excellence, resilience, and the indomitable spirit of the Delta people.”
Commending the vision and commitment of the compilers and publishers, he emphasized that the compendium showcases the achievements of Deltans who have excelled across various spheres, both within Nigeria and globally. “This project is a mirror of who we are and what we are capable of achieving,” he noted.
The former military administrator represented by his son Flight Lieutenant, Terry Ajobena (Rtd) congratulated the honorees describing them as the pride of the state. He praised their individual journeys as testimonies of hard work and perseverance, adding that their stories are a beacon of inspiration to the younger generation.
AVM Ajobena however challenged both the honourees and stakeholders to ensure that individual success translates into collective development. “While we acknowledge and honour greatness, the wealth of human capital Delta possesses has not yet been fully harnessed to reflect in our roads, schools, industries, health facilities, and the general well-being of the people,” he said.
“This is not a criticism but a call to action,” he emphasized, urging honourees to channel their knowledge, resources, and influence into uplifting the state and making a tangible impact on their communities.
AVM Ajobena also appealed to the government and private sector to work together to create enabling environments that can harness the talents of Deltans. “When government and private citizens work hand in hand, excellence will no longer be isolated stories, but the shared reality of every Deltan,” he declared.
