Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Wednesday, charged Chairmen of Councils in the state to prioritize projects that have direct impact on the people.
The Chairman of the committee, Hon Chukwudi Dafe, gave the charge when he led his colleagues to Warri South and Uvwie local government councils in continuation of the oversight visits to 25 local government councils in the state by the members of the Committee.
Hon Dafe who represents Ukwuani Constituency in the House, said focus should be on people’s oriented projects and programmes.
He therefore admonished head of the councils to progress in that direction in line with the “Renewed Hope for More” agenda of His Excellencies, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Flanked by Hon James Augoye, Ferguson Onwo, Oboro Preyor, Emmanuel Sinebe, Fred Martins, Austin Uroye and Isaac Anwuzia, the Lawmaker stated that the Committee is committed to sustainable development at the grassroots level.
Dafe emphasized that the committee has the mandate to ensuring that funds receive from federal allocation reconciled with projects on ground at the various local government areas, hence the oversight visits.
He advised against compromising quality in execution of projects, adding that the Delta State House of Assembly will continue to advocate for high standards in the development of physical infrastructure in the state.
Hon Dafe commended the Chairmen of Warri South and Uvwie for their leadership and for embarking on projects that would uplift the wellbeing of the people.
Chairman of Warri South, Comrade Weyinmi Agbateyiniro, described the oversight visit as a welcome development, adding that such exercise would spur the council to do more for the people at the grassroot.
Agbateyiniro said he is committed to the social economic development of the people, saying that his administration has built and completed 38 shops in Igbudu market as well as reconstructed sections of the market that were gutted by fire, amongst other projects and programmes by his administration.
Chairman of Uvwie local government council, Hon Anthony Ofoni, while receiving the Lawmakers, said all projects executed by his government were initiated by the people, maintaining that the development has brought the needed impact on the lives of the govern.
Ofoni disclosed that the state-of-the-art cottage hospital project is to provide affordable healthcare for the people, while the 250 unit of shops with modern abattoir and cold rooms were designed to promote trade and commerce in the locality.
He thanked the lawmakers for the visit.
