“Clean Air: Healthy People! Say No To Atmospheric Pollution”, is the theme of a week long activities put together by the Environmental Health Officers Association of Nigeria, EHOAN, Aniocha North Local Government Area Chapter to mark 2025 World Environmental Day Celebration.
World Environmental Health Day was declared in 2011 by the International Federation of Environmental Health (IFEH) in Indonesia, to raise awareness on how environmental factors such as air and water quality, climate change, sanitation, and exposure to unsafe chemicals, impact human health.
Passionate on objectives of the global celebration, the Chairman of Aniocha North, Hon Emma Bazim Chinye, approved the programme of activities, beginning Monday, 22nd to Sunday 28th September, to mark this year’s celebration which is observed on 26th September every year.
Supervisor for Environment, Aniocha North, Hon Queen Ndubuokwu, at the flagged off of the event at Issele Uku, headquarters of the Council, underscored the importance of the day, noting that it highlights the direct relationship between environmental conditions and human well-being.
Hon. Ndubuokwu explained that the annual global event, provides opportunity to pay attention on pressing environmental issues, including Air and water pollution, Climate change, Unsafe chemicals and radiation, Community occupational hazard as well as Inadequate sanitation and hygiene.
She stated further that the celebration was not just symbolic, but a call to action for stakeholders to adopt sustainable environmental practices, enforce policies in that regard and promote a culture of its stewardship.
The Supervisor for Environment, therefore urged the people of Aniocha North local government area to strengthen their commitment to environmental sustainability and public health.
Ndubuokwu paid glowing tribute to the Chairman of the Council, Hon Emma Chinye, for his sustained commitment to creating a healthy environment for residents in Aniocha North.
She also commended HoD Environment and her team for their tireless efforts in mobilizing community support and enforcing environmental health regulations.
“I want to use this opportunity to again urge my dear people of Aniocha North to cooperate and collaborate with the World Health Organization, through the local government, to ensure a healthy environment for our collective well-being.
“Let me emphasize that the World Environmental Health Day celebration serves as a reminder that protecting the environment is crucial to safeguarding public health as experts believe that through community participation, government intervention, and responsible individual actions, societies can work toward a healthier and more resilient future”, Ndubuokwu stated.
