The Ohaneze Ndigbo, Delta Central and South Senatorial Districts of Delta State, South-South Nigeria, has endorsed the reelection of His Excellency, Rt Hon (Elder) Sheriff F.O. Oborevwori, Governor of the state, for another term in office.
The socio-cultural organization at the 2025 Igbo Cultural Day Celebration, held on Monday, 29th September, at Effurun, headquarters of Uvwie local government council, also honoured the Executive Chairman, Delta State Internal Revenue Service, Hon. Solomon Ighrakpata with Patron-ship of the group.
The unanimous decision to adopt the Governor as its sole candidate for the governorship election in 2027 and the conferment of Hon Ighrakpata as patron of the group, were major highlights of the celebration.
The State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, appreciated the Ohaneze Ndigbo, Delta Central and South for endorsing him for a second tenure in office.
The Governor who was represented at the event by IRS Boss, Hon. Solomon Ighrakpata, commended the group for recognizing the sterling performance of his administration since assumption of office, promising to continue his good work in the interest of the state.
He thanked members of Ohaneze, Delta Central and South, for their continued efforts in contributing to the social, economic and political development in the State.
Oborevwori affirmed Government’s unwavering commitment to supporting communities and groups, including the Ohaneze Ndigbo, that demonstrate responsible citizenship, particularly through peaceful coexistence and performance of civic duties.
He noted that members of Ohaneze Ndigbo constitute a large percentage of the informal sector in the State and urged them to educate their members on the need for prompt and honest payment of taxes.
The Governor charged the group to sustain its support to the state government’s peace keeping efforts and the visible landmark projects across the three Senatorial Districts of the state.
He also charged members of the group to continue to work together with his administration to build a society that is secure, just and prosperous for all.
Oborevwori emphasized that progress only thrives where there is peace, saying “a peaceful society creates the right atmosphere for development, investment and prosperity”.
“Peace and harmony amongst the people allows government to channel resources into physical infrastructure development, education, healthcare, job creation and promote business friendly environment, rather than conflict resolution or security operations.
“I therefore, urge every Deltan and residents in the state to continue to be ambassadors of peace within their neighborhoods and across the wider society as we all stand to benefit a lot in a peaceful and prosperous environment”, the Governor added.
