Chairman, Delta State Board of Internal Revenue Service, IRS, Hon Solomon Ighrakpata, and the State Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr Sonny Ekedayen have extended their warmest congratulations to Urhobo College, Effurun, Uvwie local government area, on its outstanding achievement as the overall winner of the 2025 Zenith Bank Delta Principal Cup.
Hon Ighrakpata, a two termed member of the Delta State House of Assembly who represented Uvwie Constituency and Mr Ekedayen, both old boys of the Urhobo College, Effurun, said they were so proud of the performance of their alma mata in the football game against Ogbe-Ijoh Grammar School, Ogbe-Ijoh in Warri South West local government area.
Speaking in an interview at Stephen Keshi’s Township Stadium, Asaba, after watching the finals of the tournament, Ighrakpata said “As a proud old boy of Urhobo College, Effurun, I am elated by the college’s triumph in this prestigious competition.
“I am thrilled to see my alma mata excel and bring glory to the Urhobo College community. This victory is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and teamwork of the students, teachers, and coaches involved.
The IRS Boss commended the students for showcasing their talents, sportsmanship, and resilience, reflecting the values instilled by Urhobo College.
“This win is not just a celebration of sporting prowess but also an affirmation of the college’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals,” Ighrakpata stated.

While celebrating the achievement, Hon Ighrakpata also urges the students and management of Urhobo College, Effurun, to maintain their focus on academic excellence.
“As you celebrate this victory, I encourage you to continue striving for excellence in your academic pursuits. Remember, a balance between academics and extracurricular activities is key to holistic development and future success”, He emphasized.

Similarly, the Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr Sonny Ekedayen, commended the young players for their resilience that earned them victory.

Looking ahead to future competitions, Mr Ekedayen advised them to “Build on this momentum, keep working hard, and aim higher in future competitions.
“Let this victory inspire you to greater heights in all your endeavors. Always uphold the values of discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship that have brought you to this point.”

The two respondents paid glowing tributes to the Delta State Government and Zenith Bank PLC for putting together the annual competition.
