The Executive Chairman, Delta State Board of Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Hon Solomon Ighrakpata, has commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for approving release of ₦8.4 billion to clear inherited contract debts owed to contractors of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC).
Reacting to the development, Hon Ighrakpata said the approval is a significant step towards addressing long-standing financial obligations dating back more than a decade.
He described the Governor’s decision as a demonstration of his commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and fairness in governance.
“His Excellency’s approval of this payment underscores his dedication to ensuring that DESOPADEC’s contractors, who have waited patiently for years, receive the payments they are due.
“This move will not only restore confidence among contractors but also stimulate economic activity in Delta State, particularly in oil producing communities”, Hon Ighrakpata stated.
The IRS Boss emphasized that release of the funds aligns with the state’s efforts to encourage private sector participation in governance and foster development in the state.
He expressed optimism that the development will boost trust between the government and contractors, ultimately contributing to the socio-economic growth of Delta State’s oil-producing areas.
Hon Ighrakpata also highlighted the importance of conducting thorough audits to verify claims and ensure transparency in such payments, as directed by the Governor.
He noted that the initiative reflects the administration’s commitment at addressing challenges faced by the people and promote grassroots development.
The Chairman of the Board of Internal Revenue Service commended Governor Oborevwori for his leadership in tackling inherited financial burdens and urged all stakeholders to continue working towards the development of Delta State.
Hon Ighrakpata reminded business establishments, corporate bodies, individuals and organizations on the need to be tax compliance and to pay their tax promptly in support of the Governor’s efforts in the development of the state.
The IRS Executive Chairman emphasized that the state government under the leadership of Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori needs all the funds to drive progress in the state and fulfill its MORE agenda to the people.
