DSIRS Extends Deadline For Filing Individual Tax Returns To April 14

Delta State Internal Revenue Service (DSIRS) has announced a two-week extension for the filing of individual annual income tax returns, shifting the deadline from today, March 31 to April 14, 2026.

In a press statement signed by the Executive Chairman of the Board, Hon Solomon Ighrakpata, the agency said the extension is aimed at giving taxpayers additional time to comply accurately with their obligations.

“It is hereby announced for the information of the general public, particularly taxable persons including employees, that the Delta State Internal Revenue Service has extended the deadline for filing of individual annual tax returns by two weeks from April 1 to April 14, 2026,” the statement read.

The Service clarified that the original statutory deadline remains March 31, in line with the provisions of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025, but noted that the extension was necessary to ease compliance.

“It is important to clarify that the statutory deadline for filing of individual annual tax returns is 31 March. However, this extension has become necessary to provide individuals with extra time to complete and submit accurate tax returns,” Ighrakpata stated.

The IRS Boss urged taxpayers to take advantage of the extension and fulfill their civic duties promptly.

“To this end, individuals are enjoined to prioritise timely filing of their annual income tax returns as an integral part of their civic responsibility,” he added.

The DSIRS also emphasized that all filings must be done electronically through its self-service portal.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the filing of annual income tax returns is to be done electronically through the DSIRS self-service portal,” the statement noted.

Ighrakpata in the statement, advised taxpayers seeking assistance to visit any DSIRS office or contact the agency through its official communication channels, including email and its website chat-box.

The extension is expected to improve compliance levels and ensure more accurate tax submissions across the state.
