Delta State House of Assembly Service Commission, has commended the leadership of the State Legislature for its genuine efforts in the welfare of staff of the Assembly.
Chairman of the newly reconstituted Commission, Evangelist (Mrs) Cordelia Anyangwu gave the commendation when she led members and other management of the commission on a maiden courtesy visit to the Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt Hon Sherrif Oborevwori in his office in Asaba.
The Chairman said Members have closely observed the concerted efforts of the Speaker towards the welfare and wellbeing of the staff of the Assembly, including those serving in the commission.
Evangelist Anyangwu pointed out that approval for promotion of staff due for the exercise even in the absence of constituted Commission, payment of outfit allowance to staff on the anniversary of the date of their employment, amongst others, have prevented restiveness and agitations that could have heated up the legislative bureaucracy.
She also paid glowing tributes to the Speaker for the sound synergy between the legislature and the executive, emphasizing that the recent passage and signing into law of the Assembly Service Commission law and the Fund Management Law was a hallmark of his regime as the Presiding Officer of the Assembly.
The Chairman, however highlighted some issues of immediate concern, including need for full implementation of the Funds Management law, increase in monthly subvention, new office accommodation, filling of vacancies in the legi service, adequate release of funds to the commission, provision of official vehicles as well as to incorporate the Commission’s budget into the House budget as stipulated by section 20, sub section 1 of the HASC law, amongst others.
Receiving the delegation, the Speaker, Rt Hon Oborevwori, congratulated them for their appointments and successful inauguration and charged them to bring their wealth of experience to bear in discharge of their duties.
He stressed the need for increased discipline among staff of the State House of Assembly just as he pledged the legislators’ continued support and synergy with the commission.
The highpoint of the visit was presentation of souvenir by the Speaker to the delegation.
