Rain of endorsements for the Pan Deltan governorship aspirant, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, got another major boost as Delta Mandate declared him sole candidate of the group.
The adoption of Mr Speaker was announced by the National President of Delta Mandate, Chief Dr Isaac Anwuzia at a press conference held in Asaba on Tuesday 19th April, 2022.
The group described Oborevwori as the incoming governor of Delta State, and governor Okowa’s suitable successor based on his popularity and acceptability ratings across the twenty five local government areas in the state.
Anwuzia further disclosed that the decision to adopt Oborevwori as sole governorship candidate of Delta Mandate was arrived at after careful and holistic assessments of his detribalised nature, integrity, maturity, competence, sincerity and above all, the inestimable roles he has been playing towards the huge success of Governor Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa led administration in the past nearly seven years and still counting.
“After a thorough assessment of political developments in the state and studied analysis of all the governorship aspirants, in the 2023 race, Delta Mandate has unanimously resolved to to adopt Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori as its preferred governorship aspirant.
“The adoption of Oborevwori by Delta Mandate is without prejudice to the status of PDP as our supreme and highest decision making political organ but based on rights to free assembly and freedom of expression as guaranteed in the Nigerian Constitution.
“As frontline political stakeholders we have a mandate to champion a search for the emergence of a governorship flag bearer. The choice of Oborevwori is overwhelmingly desirable for good reasons.
“Oborevwori’s natural elements are strikingly positive. He is humble, friendly, fair minded and accessible. He has pleasant human relations, a man of easy carriage, he holds respect above social classification; old and young, rich and poor, high and low.
“He listens, judges less and learns more. Oborevwori is a man of the people. A unifier, passionate about one Delta. With his tolerance and amiable composure, we firmly believe that Oborevwori possesses a Pan Delta spirit required to keep the people together and govern the state on the path of peaceful coexistence and social harmony.”
The highly formidable political pressure group with membership strength across the three Senatorial districts, further noted that Delta has evolved on the wings of equity and shared patrimony wherein equitable sharing of power strengthens the basic foundation of the state.
Delta Mandate identified Oborevwori as a driving force of the equity movement over the years and therefore best suited to benefit from the arrangement while describing him as a vibrant representative and symbol of power rotation, as a loyal, responsible, tested and trusted party man.
“Delta Mandate also adopted him because of his work ethics in public service. He has served as Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly since the past five years. The longest and the most stable so far in the history of the state.
“While the tenures of most of his predecessors had been marred by impeachments and controversies, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori has remained on the saddle, steering the House with a liberal accommodating leadership style, to the love and administration of his colleagues.
“This effective management clearly explains why he was elected deputy national chairman, conference of speakers in the federation, an admirable feat indeed.
“Delta Mandate strongly believe that the state governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa led administration has performed excellently well as can be seen from the various life transformation socioeconomic programmes and monumental infrastructure development.
“The Speaker, Oborevwori, with his strategic office no doubt has contributed immensely to the success of this administration.
“We are convinced that he is best qualified to sustain the excellent works of Okowa, towards consolidation on the monumental milestones. Delta Mandate hence stands by Oborevwori as our favourite governorship hopeful in 2023 gubernatorial race.
“We are irrevocably committed to his governorship ambition as our collective project. We shall mobilize our teeming members across the units, wards, local government areas and the entire state to support our chosen candidate.
“We therefore passionately appeal to all Deltans, political leaders and PDP members, especially our esteemed delegates, to rally Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori to victory at next month’s gubernatorial primaries.
“Let us all join the SHERIFFICATION train for a smooth sail,” Anwuzia said.
Delta Mandate is a coalition of staunch members of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, dedicated to the pursuit of popular democracy, good governance, civic engagement and social justice. The group stands as an offshot of PDP.
DM is a political movement that recognizes the authority and ideals of PDP with its mass appeal as the most responsible party in Nigeria, and the largest in Africa.
DM is National in outlook but firmly rooted in Delta. It exists in 270 wards and 25 local government areas in the state with thousands of unit coordinators and representatives.
